Driver dies after pickup slams into big rig cab in NE Houston

HOUSTON, TX — One person lost their life Tuesday morning following a crash involving a pickup truck and an 18-wheeler cab in northeast Houston, reports ABC13.

The fatal wreck took place in the 200 block of McCarty Street, near Portwall Street. Houston Police were dispatched to the area shortly after 6:40 a.m.

According to a preliminary investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division, the a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck collided with an unattached big rig cab. Officials say the tractor-trailer truck was stopped in the southbound lanes and had its left-turn signal on, waiting to turn onto Portwall Street.

The impact of the crash caused the Ford to catch fire, but a passerby was able to put it out.

First responders rushed the driver of the Ford to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 29-year-old man, was not reported hurt. He cooperated with an investigation and was subsequently released from the scene.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of McCarty Street were blocked during the emergency response.
