Driver dies following fiery rollover crash in Houston’s Acres Home area

HOUSTON, TX — A fiery rollover crash last Sunday morning, December 24, in northwest Houston’s Acres Home area claimed the life of a 57-year-old man, according to a Houston Police Department press release.

The collision unfolded in the 8900 block of Wheatley Street at around 6:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation by the HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division indicates the man was behind the wheel of a red Toyota Avalon traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. At one point, he failed to maintain a single lane, causing the Toyota to run off the roadway and strike multiple small trees, a utility pole, and then the flatbed of a tractor-trailer that was parked nearby. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn multiple times and then catch fire.

First responders pronounced the male driver and sole occupant deceased at the scene. Authorities have not yet disclosed his identity at this time.

No other vehicles or parties were involved.

An investigation remains open and ongoing.
