HPD investigates fatal multi-vehicle wreck involving DWI suspect in north Houston

HOUSTON, TX — One person lost their life Sunday morning, December 10, in Houston’s Northside/Northline area due to a crash involving a DWI suspect, according to the Houston Police Department.

The HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division said the fatal wreck occurred at 6600 Airline Drive, at East Parker Road, at about 6:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect, 20-year-old Brayan Barrera, was operating a white Ford F-150 pickup truck southbound through the intersection. There, the Ford hit a white Chevrolet Impala heading eastbound on East Parker Road, causing the Impala to strike a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was waiting at a red light on northbound Airline Drive.

Paramedics with the Houston Fire Department confirmed the driver of the Impala died from his injuries at the scene. His name and age has not been released at this time.

The 33-year-old male driver and 37-year-old female passenger of the Silverado were not reported injured.

Responding officers arrested Barrera at the scene for suspected impairment. He was subsequently charged with “driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #4.”

An investigation remains open and ongoing.
