ICE agent charged in connection with crash that injured man

HOUSTON, TX – An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent was charged in connection with a crash that left one man seriously injured last month.

This is an update in connection with our previous reporting. Click2Houston said the ICE agent, Mario Alberto Morales, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He turned himself in on Monday before a Harris County district judge and posted a $30,000 bond.

The Back Story

The incident happened in the area of Clay Road and Highway 6 on Saturday, Oct. 10. A man, identified as Miguel Parra Hernandez, was reportedly running away from ICE agents. Prosecutors said Morales intentionally ran over Parra Hernandez with an SUV, leaving Parra Hernandez seriously injured.

Parra Hernandez was taken to a hospital and required surgery.

What’s Next?

Morales is still employed by ICE, but on the condition of his bond, he shall not be allowed to carry firearms. His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 2.

The Harris County District Attorney’s office will challenge Morales’ attorney Michael Wynne’s attempt to move the case to federal court.
