Man and child critically injured in Harris County Amtrak train crash

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Two people were critically hurt on Sunday when an Amtrak train hit their car on Lockwood Road, reports ABC13.

The collision occurred in northeast Harris County near the rail crossing on Lockwood Road. Officials say the vehicle stopped along the tracks even as crossing equipment had been lowered.

The train reportedly sounded its horn as it neared the crossing. Authorities say that the train struck the car at about 60 mph.

The driver and a child passenger were transported to a hospital in critical condition. Officials believe the injured vehicle occupants may be a father and son.

Investigators are reviewing whether alcohol may have played a role in the incident. No passengers or crew members on the Amtrak train reported injuries. Officials continue to investigate the circumstances that led up to the crash.
