Missouri City officer relieved of duty after fatal crash on Cartwright Rd
MISSOURI CITY, TX – According to ABC 13, the officer involved in a deadly crash at 1681 Cartwright Rd on June 20 has been relieved of duty.
Officer Blademir Viveros, 27, was responding to an ATM robbery and was heading east on Cartwright Rd when he slammed into a vehicle occupied by Angela Stewart, 53, and her 16-year-old son around 8:42 p.m. The 16-year-old was driving and was pulling out of a Dollar Tree during the crash.
Officer Viveros did not have his emergency lights on during the wreck.
Officials say the Stewarts did not yield the right of way before being struck by Officer Viveros.
Rescue crews pronounced the Stewarts dead at the scene. They transported Officer Viveros to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. A man in the back seat of the patrol car, Michael Hawkins, 53, was also taken to the hospital, where he is still being treated.
Officer Viveros has been relieved of duty.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident. They will submit the investigation to the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office for review once it is complete.
