UPDATE: HPD locates vehicle from Gulf Fwy hit-and-run that killed 2
HOUSTON, TX — Authorities have recovered a vehicle that had fled after fatally hitting two people on a scooter on the Gulf Freeway early Wednesday, reports ABC13.
The incident occurred in the 4000 block of the freeway (Interstate 45) near Monroe Road and Cullen Boulevard.
It remains unclear what led up to the initial crash, but investigators said a man and a woman, both 37, were struck from behind while riding a white Coleman motorcycle scooter southbound. Because the event occurred on the far side of a hill crest, visibility was poor and the victims’ bodies were hit by multiple other vehicles after the first vehicle fled the scene.
First responders pronounced both victims deceased on the scene.
The other involved drivers stayed at the site and cooperated with an investigation.
Police later found the fleeing car parked near a southeast Houston warehouse, located in the 3800 block of Dennis Street.
At this time, a search for the hit-and-run driver remains ongoing.
