Woman dies after being hit by pickup truck in downtown Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A woman was fatally injured Monday afternoon due to a pedestrian crash on Milam Street in downtown Houston, reports ABC13.

The accident happened in the 900 block of the road near Walker Street, about four blocks from the Houston Police Department headquarters. Detectives with the department’s Vehicular Crimes Division responded to the scene at 12:25 p.m.

According to the Houston Police Department, a man was driving a pickup westbound on Walker Street when he began making a left turn onto Milam Street.

Authorities noted that both streets are one-way and that they believe the vicim, who was crossing the street, had the right-of-way when she was struck by the vehicle.

First responders rushed the woman to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver was administered a field sobriety test at the scene and then was seen driving away. It remains unclear whether any charges are expected to be filed.

The intersection was shut down for about three hours during the response and investigation, but reopened some time before 3:00 p.m.
