1 charged, 2 killed in DUI crash on I-610 near Roe Dr

HOUSTON, TX – A man and a woman died Saturday in a single-vehicle crash caused by an alleged drunk driver along the freeway in Houston.

According to Fox 26 Houston, the accident happened around 2 a.m. in the area of I-610 and Roe Drive, just southeast of Brookline Park and west of I-45.

Police say that 18-year-old Isaiah Xavier Benavidez was intoxicated and speeding when his pickup truck lost traction on a wet patch in the roadway. The vehicle crashed into a road sign and ignited.

Two passengers in the pickup, an 18-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Medics transported Benavidez to the hospital with unknown injuries. Authorities have charged him with intoxication manslaughter.
