1 killed, another injured after pickup truck crashes into Atascocita cake store
ATASCOCITA, TX – One person was killed, and another was injured after a pickup truck crashed into a Nothing Bundt Cakes store in Atascocita on Tuesday.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. at 19250 W. Lake Houston Parkway. Click2Houston said an elderly man in his 70s was behind the wheel of a pickup truck. He accidentally pressed on his gas pedal and plowed into the building.
The pickup truck struck a young female employee, and debris from the crash struck a customer, a 52-year-old woman, who was ordering bundt cakes for work.
The employee died on impact, and the 52-year-old woman sustained unspecified injuries.
The 52-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office said they detained the elderly driver, who showed no signs of impairment. Deputies also confirmed he had a passenger, his wife, with him at the time of the crash.
It’s unclear whether the elderly man will face criminal charges in connection with the crash.
