Young man fatally hit by DWI suspect in Houston’s Northside
HOUSTON, TX — A 23-year-old man died last Thursday, December 14, after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a road in Houston’s Northside, reports the Houston Police Department.
The fatal incident unfolded in the 6100 block of North Shepherd Drive at around 9:35 p.m.
Preliminary details show the victim was crossing the street on foot and was not within a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a black Volkswagen Passat traveling northbound.
Paramedics confirmed the victim died from his injuries at the scene. His identity has not been made public at this time.
The driver, a 39-year-old man identified as Terran Gerrod Byrd, was determined to be impaired after an initial investigation. He was then charged with DWI (driving while intoxicated) in Harris County Criminal Court #1 and transported to Harris County Jail.
