Man pleads guilty in 2023 crash that killed Winnie man
JEFFERSON CO., TX – A suspect pled guilty to manslaughter charges in connection to a crash that happened two years ago in west-central Jefferson County, reports 12 News Now.
The two-vehicle accident occurred on August 12, 2023, on the westbound side of TX-83 between Winnie and Taylor Landing, which is about 68 miles east of Houston.
Police allege that 22-year-old Tristen Kelly Dunnam was speeding when his Chevy Silverado rear-ended a Chevy Suburban carrying 45-year-old Christian Michael Sykes and a child passenger. The impact of the collision ejected Sykes and caused his vehicle to roll.
Sykes succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
Medics transported a 5-year-old passenger from the Suburban to an area hospital with unknown injuries.
Instead of stopping to render aid, Dunnam fled the scene.
This past Monday, Dunnam entered a guilty plea to charges of manslaughter and accident involving death. His sentencing is scheduled for January 5th, 2026.
The investigation is ongoing.
