Man killed in hit-and-run while helping driver on West Loop near Galleria

HOUSTON, TX – A young man died in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday on the 610 Loop near the Galleria after stopping to help another driver, reports KTRK.

Sincere Barrette, 24, had reportedly been involved in a minor crash just after 5 a.m. while trying to move onto the freeway shoulder. After that collision, he got out to inspect the damage and check on the other driver, according to police and his family.

Investigators say another vehicle then struck Barrette and fled the scene. Police have not identified the driver.

Barrette’s grandparents, Lawanna and Lorick Jeffery, said their grandson was trying to help when the fatal crash happened. They now want the driver to come forward.

The family also wants stronger road safety measures. They pointed to nearby traffic cameras and said recorded footage could help police solve cases like this one. The Texas Department of Transportation confirmed that many local traffic cameras stream live video but do not record it.

Houston police say the driver remains at large. Officials urge anyone with information about the vehicle or the case to contact the HPD Hit-and-Run Unit or Crime Stoppers.
