Infant dies following crash caused by alleged impaired driver near Aleif

HOUSTON, TX – An infant died in a two-vehicle collision caused by a suspected impaired driver at  Cook Road and Corona Lane Wednesday evening, according to KHOU.

Isiah Martnez, 19, was speeding south on Cook Road when he slammed into a car driven by a 27-year-old mother at the intersection with Corona Lane around 6:30 p.m

The mother’s 11-month-old boy was in the backseat. He was thrown from the car during the crash. First responders pronounced the boy dead at the scene and transported the mother to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Following the wreck, Martinez and a passenger fled the scene on foot. The passenger eventually convinced Martinez to come back to the crash site.

Authorities determined Martinez was impaired and charged him with failure to stop and render aid and driving while intoxicated.

Martinez was in court Thursday afternoon. A judge set his bail at $80,000. He will appear in court again on Friday.
