Male pedestrian fatally hit by car on I-45 SB near Northside Village

HOUSTON, TX — A man died early Friday after being hit by a vehicle while walking on Interstate Highway 45 near Houston’s Northside Village, reports ABC13.

Houston Police said the fatal incident occurred on the inbound lanes of IH-45 (North Freeway) near Patton Street, just north of downtown. Officers were and first responders were called to the area shortly after 3:10 a.m.

According to an early investigation, the male pedestrian, believed to be in his 20s, had been walked along the freeway. At one point, he entered the direct path of southbound traffic and was struck by a blue Volkswagen Jetta.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed at this time, was pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed the HPD.

The driver of the Volkswagen, who was not suspected of impairment, remained after the crash and cooperated with investigators before being released.

Authorities had all southbound main lanes and the feeder road shut down at North Main Street for an extended period during the response and investigation, which remains ongoing.
