Passenger dies after Jeep hits parked flatbed trailer in north Houston

HOUSTON, TX — A woman has died nearly two weeks after a crash Tuesday, July 4, involving a parked flatbed trailer in Houston’s Greens Landing area, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident occurred in the 1000 block of Tall Pine Valley Drive, west of the Walmart Supercenter, shortly after 1:00 a.m.

Investigators say Mark Duvall was driving a 2010 Jeep Wrangler eastbound on the road. At one point, he failed to properly pass to the left, causing the front end of the Jeep to strike a parked flatbed trailer.

Authorities noted that the trailer, which was not attached to a power unit, was left with its front-end facing west, which provided almost no reflective material and visibility to oncoming traffic.

The victim’s mother, Maria Duvall, was in the Jeep’s front-right passenger seat at the time and suffered serious injuries. She was rushed to HCA Houston Healthcare Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased on July 16, 2023, confirmed officials.

An investigation by the HCSO’s Vehicular Crimes Division remains ongoing.
