Pedestrian dies after hit-and-run crash in SE Houston driveway
HOUSTON, TX — A woman was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle in a private driveway in southeast Houston, reports Click2Houston.
The incident occurred off of 17600 Meadowbrook Drive, in the city’s Meadowbrook/Allendale neighborhood, at about 4:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office shows one woman was behind the wheel of a red 1990-1995 Chevrolet Suburban parked in the driveway. As the female driver reversed the Suburban, the vehicle hit an older woman who was behind the back-right corner of the vehicle. The suspect, who drove away from the scene, was later spotted traveling northbound on Fairmont Drive.
First responders rushed the victim to an area hospital, where she was listed in critical condition. Officials confirmed she was later pronounced deceased.
Later the same day, deputies located and towed the Suburban, which had been abandoned by the driver.
An investigation and search for the hit-and-run suspect remain ongoing.
