Woman dies after hit-and-run pedestrian crash in NE Houston parking lot, suspect charged

HOUSTON, TX — A 65-year-old woman was fatally injured Tuesday, February 6, as a result of a hit-and-run pedestrian crash in a northeast Houston parking lot, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident was reported in the 7200 block of Lyons Avenue, near Sol Supermarket & Taqueria, at around 6:05 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the victim, Georgia Salas, was traveling on foot on the sidewalk along the road when she was hit by a silver Nissan Rogue believed to have been driven by the suspect, 50-year-old Nicolas Lopez Martinez. Authorities say Lopez Martinez had been exiting a private parking lot at the time that the Nissan made contact with the pedestrian. Following the event, Lopez Martinez fled the scene but was later located and arrested.

Salas was rushed by paramedics to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, confirmed officials.

After being questioned by officials, Lopez Martinez was transported to Harris County Jail and later charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 248th State District Court. Pending further investigation, he may face additional charges.
